Yearly Winner 2007 Employee of the Year Award Geneva Hairs Airport Specialist - MDAD Patricia Cárdenas Airport Agent - MDAD
In June 2007, with caring and compassion, Geneva Hairs and Patricia Cárdenas assisted an elderly disoriented passenger; taking him to stay at the home of a friend, going as far as laundering his clothes. They personify the concept of “above and beyond the call of duty.”

GEORGINA FELIX Customer Service Agent, US Airways
Despite not being able to obtain passage on two flights, a stand-by passenger was very pleased with the friendly and helpful assistance she received from Mrs. Georgina Felix, a Customer Service Agent for US Airways. Georgina is commended for offering courteous and professional customer service not only to all US Airways passengers, but also to all MIA patrons.

Christopher Johnson Supervisor, SITA Networking
While driving, Christopher saw an accident and stopped to offer assistance. When one of the parties attempted to flee the scene in his truck, which turned out to be stolen, Christopher climbed up the truck and tried to prevent the driver from starting up the truck, but without success. As the truck drove off, Christopher fell off and was run over by the truck. He was subsequently airlifted to the hospital with multiple injuries, including a pelvic fracture. Despite his injuries and a slight limp, Christopher is now back at work.

While performing his assigned job duties, Mr. Ramos noticed an aircraft heading for departure with a flat tire. He immediately notified Airside Operations, which then contacted the FAA Tower and had the aircraft hold position. Thanks to Mr. Ramos’ observation and decisive action, a potential catastrophic accident was avoided.

Marjorie Jacques Security Screener, 50 States Security
Marjorie found and helped a stranded 85 year old passenger, Mr. Montell Camino, who had arrived from Haiti. Taking personal charge, she fed him breakfast and lunch, and contacted various family members for him in Delray Beach. After several hours, Mr. Camino’s daughter, unaware that her father was in Miami, finally drove to the airport to pick him up. At all times, Marjorie remained by the elderly gentleman’s side.

Thanks to the exceptional help and cooperation from this group of employees, the County saved $200,000 by coming up with an alternative way to remove contaminated soil from the airport.

Madeleine found a passenger who had been desperately looking for her car for almost two hours. Madeleine assisted the passenger and patiently drove her around different parking levels until they found the automobile.

Thanks to the quick response of Mr. Urraca in alerting the police, four individuals attempting to gain illegal entry into a vehicle were arrested.

Allen Lowy Officer, Miami-Dade Police Department
On August 7, 2008, a family traveling abroad from MIA lost three passports somewhere between American Airlines’ ticket counter and Gate E7. MDPD officer Allen Lowy not only found the lost passports, he also rushed to the departure gate and personally delivered them to the family just as the aircraft’s door was about to close. In the words of the passengers, Officer Lowy “did an exceptional job in a short amount of time.”

Lt. Emmanuel Guerrier Lieutenant, Miami-Dade Police Department
Lt. Guerrier received a dispatch call concerning a sick passenger with a possible heart attack. He took an AED (defibrillator) unit, rushed to the area and found the passenger without a heartbeat. With the help of a nurse who was in the area, the passenger was revived and transported to a hospital. The passenger was later reported to be in good condition.

Mr. Diaz offered a ride on his electric cart to sick passenger who could not walk and was just about to lose her flight at Gate D-51.

To save time and money with the County’s procurement process for buying a raffle wheel and numerous raffle deposit boxes, this group of employees enthusiastically built replicas of these items from a picture. Thanks to their efforts, the County saved approximately $1,000 and the items for the raffle were ready in time for an important United Way event.

Shacoria Hinton Airport Parking Associates
She stopped and assisted an injured TSA employee on his way to work after a hit and run motorcycle accident. Shacoria called the police with her radio and stood the injured person until police arrived.
