Vertically Integrated Cargo Community VICC® is coming to MIA.

• The 1.7m square foot innovative cargo powerhouse will incorporate all aspects of cargo throughput functionalities under one roof.
• VICC will provide annual capacity for 4.5m metric tons of air cargo.
• Optimizing cargo operations and utilizing new logistic technologies within a vertical platform.

VICC® will multiply MIA’s cargo capacity by 6x and will be the most efficient, highly automated shipper and consumer friendly cargo community in the world. Specifically designed to minimize truck dwell time, with an ample truck queue, resulting in a 50 percent truck trip reduction time at MIA.  The facility will expand modern cargo operational capacity with the ability to service up to 4.5m metric tons of cargo and 12 Category VI Aircraft Parking Positions. The VICC® is estimated to create approximately 8,000 high-paying cargo jobs & will support employees with retail, hospitality, healthcare, and daycare facilities.

In 2015, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) recognized MIA as the first IATA Designated Pharma Hub Airport in the U.S. and only the second in the world after Brussels Airport. MIA received this recognition for engaging the local cargo community in the IATA Center of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) Pharma Certification Program; a program that prepares logistics companies to become experts at properly handling sensitive pharma products shipped by air. Five members of the MIA cargo community have completed the CEIV Certification Program including 2 airline carriers, 1 ground handling company, and 2 international freight forwarders.

Foreign-Trade Zone No. 281 furnishes competitive edge and offering benefits to international shippers with opportunities to reduce, defer and even entirely eliminate U.S. Customs duties associated with import-export activity. The magnet site includes all 3,248 acres of the airport. The MIA FTZ magnet site is an expansion of Miami-Dade County’s existing FTZ 281 granted to PortMiami. LATAM Group is the first approved operator within MIA’s FTZ magnet site.
