OH WHAT A RELIEF IT IS: Low, High, and Sunken
On view through January 16, 2025
Miami International Airport’s MIA Galleries in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools Division of Life Skills & Special Projects.
Relief comes from the Italian word relievo, which means “to raise.” Any work in which the figures are projected from the background, usually a plane surface, can be called a relief image. Relief imagery, a common art form that adorned the walls of the ancient world, once served as a visual narration to tell important religious, political, and historical stories and continues to hold the same interest and excitement as it did centuries ago.
This exhibition asked students to create relief images based on their personal narratives.
