Visual Puns & Hybrids, Oh My!

Miami International Airport’s MIA Galleries in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools Division of Life Skills & Special Projects.
A visual pun is an image that depicts objects or arranges objects in a way that suggests a play on words. It is a pun involving an image or images, often based on a rebus, and can replace or be in addition to language. René Magritte, Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Salvador Dalí, Remedios Varo, and contemporary artist Rodney Smith are notable artists in this area of visual puzzles.
In this exhibition, students took the lead in creating visual puns using words that sound alike or phrases with a double meaning, resulting in humorous and unexpected works.
