Vintage Video Project

on view through March 1st

These vintage television monitors were once used by Miami International Airport to display flight information and have been repurposed to present a special screening program celebrating the National Football League’s 100th season and Super Bowl LIV played at Miami, Florida on February 2, 2020.

This throwback video presentation of archival moving image materials shows how athletic and cultural events were once recorded, documented and viewed. MIA’s Fine Arts & Cultural Affairs partnered with the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives at Miami Dade College (MDC Wolfson Archives) to highlight our hometown National Football League franchise, the Miami Dolphins.  Selected footage spans several decades, 1966 to 1996 and consists of TV news coverage and home movies documenting the NFL’s only perfect season (1972), “Dolfans”, local all-time favorite players and more.

MDC Wolfson Archives is a film and video archive dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of Florida and Florida’s people. Founded in 1984, MDC Wolfson Archives’ houses more than 35,000 hours of video tape and 23 million feet of film.  This unique and historic resource is now being digitized and is freely available to everyone at wolfsonarchives.org.
