Beyond the Pitch: Artists in Their Field
May 9 – August 10, 2026
Bringing together fourteen distinguished South Florida artists to reflect on the sport’s enduring cultural legacy, Beyond the Pitch: Artists in Their Field is an exhibition inspired by soccer (football/fútbol) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup™. This exhibition examines soccer as a universal language that, through contemporary art, forges connections across generations, cultures, and communities. The participating artists draw meaningful connections between art and soccer, engaging with the narratives, shared experiences, and culture that surround the beautiful game.
Through painting, drawing, collage, mixed-media assemblage, photography, printmaking, textiles, sculpture, and video, the works presented explore themes of sportsmanship, athleticism, spectatorship, movement, joy, inclusivity, perseverance, fluidity, unity, and the global community. While some artists examined these broad concepts and their cultural resonance, others drew inspiration from the soccer ball itself - its iconic design, geometry, and the underlying science of its movement – demonstrating how even the central object of play may incite creative exploration. Collectively, these works underscore soccer’s remarkable capacity to inspire creativity, cultivate social bonds, and transcend boundaries.
Beyond the Pitch invites travelers, soccer fans, and art enthusiasts to engage with Miami’s vibrant creative community while celebrating and energizing the global excitement surrounding the sport. The exhibition encourages viewers to see soccer not just as competition, but as a shared language, and a phenomenon capable of inspiring devotion, building community, and exemplifying the beauty of human movement and cooperation.
Participating artists include Alissa Alfonso, Anastasia Samoylova, Annick Duvivier, Brian Reedy, Christina Pettersson, Claudio Marcotulli, Ernesto Kunde, Gianna DiBartolomeo, Kristen Thiele, Lili Cantero, Luis Valle, Marcus Rivero, Michelle Weinberg, and R&R STUDIOS.
