Deconstruct to Reconstruct: Re-invention Through Sustainability
On view from January 23, 2026 – April 9, 2026
Miami International Airport’s MIA Galleries in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools Division of Life Skills & Special Projects.
Deconstructivism began in the 1980s, primarily in architecture, aiming to challenge conventional perceptions. Postmodern artist Marcel Duchamp expanded this approach, blending disciplines and redefining art. Today, by deconstructing and reconstructing our creative processes, we can form new identities and narratives. Across time and cultures, artists have embraced sustainability by using upcycled materials, reclaimed objects, and natural resources. Artists like John Stezaker, Faith Ringgold, Vic Muniz, and Mark Bradford have reinvented their artistic expression through innovative, eco-conscious practices using recycled media that celebrate and protect the environment.
This exhibition invites K-12 students to repurpose posters and art visual aids giving them new meaning, narratives and cultural language in their work.
