Maritza Caneca
On view through March 28, 2021
Maritza Caneca’s artistic practice is driven by three decades as a cinematographer. Inspired by her early work, the artist is in continuous search for symmetry, focusing on natural and human-made patterns.
Her photographs compile repetitive pools and forms, always looking for a unique angle and the memories that once filled these spaces. Her artwork is clad in geometric tendencies translated through her unique cinematic point of view.
The exhibition Pools comes from extensive study and research that has taken Caneca around the world, hunting for pools. Caneca has exhibited internationally, in venues such as the iconic Copacabana Palace, and Paço Imperial during the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. She is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and lives and works in Miami, Florida where she has a studio at the Bakehouse Art Complex.
