Telling Overtown Stories, Saying Their Names

April 15 – October 13, 2026

In partnership with Miami Museum of Contemporary Art of the African Diaspora (Miami MoCAAD), this exhibition transforms the Connecting Communities Wall into a cultural hub by featuring vinyl replicas of three interactive murals exploring Historic Overtown through visual art and oral histories. QR codes activate each mural, preserving stories and honoring Overtown’s cultural legacy.

The exhibition features vinyl replicas of three permanent murals located at historic Overtown landmarks. Reginald O’Neal’s mural commemorates Local 1416 Longshoremen and their role in advancing Miami’s Black community. Anthony “Mojo” Reed II’s OVERtown: Our Family Tree honors Judge Lawson E. Thomas. Stefan Smith’s Overtown Pitch: Game Changers celebrates Black soccer history through art, storytelling, and an interactive penalty-kick game.

Overtown Pitch: Game Changers celebrates Black soccer history through art, storytelling, and an interactive penalty-kick game. Timed with FIFA World Cup 2026 and Miami-Dade 250, the exhibition expands access to Overtown’s permanent murals, inviting local and global audiences to experience art, history, technology, and community together. It honors the African Diaspora’s enduring influence while advancing Miami MoCAAD’s mission through innovative, immersive, and collaborative exhibitions.
